Postdoctoral research opportunities are available in the Penn State-Lehigh Inter-University Center for Optical Technologies (COT). COTs role as a leading research institute and close partnerships between Lehigh University and Pennsylvania State University provide an outstanding environment for developing cutting edge optical technologies with applications in biology and medicine.
Present opportunities are in BIOMEDICAL NANOIMAGING and OPTICAL DIAGNOSTICS. In BIOMEDICAL NANOIMAGING, positions are available to develop and apply innovative optical microscopy methods for studying molecular and cellular biology at the nanometer scale. Our research activities span from technology development to basic science and applications in biomedicine, as enabled by interdisciplinary collaborations within the COT, Lehigh University, and Pennsylvania State University. Candidates with strong experimental experience in optics, photonics, lasers, and optical microscopy are highly encouraged to apply. Experience in working with cells / proteins / membranes is a plus.
In OPTICAL DIAGNOSTICS, positions are available to developing the next generation of optical systems for use in disease diagnostics and tissue engineering applications. Candidates with strong experimental experience in optics and lasers, and strong background in mathematical / numerical analysis are particularly invited to apply.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: A PhD (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field is required. Demonstrated excellence in the area of optical microscopy and imaging is required. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: optical design and implementation of microscopy/imaging systems, optical device fabrication, bulk optical components, signal/image processing, programming in Matlab/Visual C++ and LabView. Creativity and knowledge of Zemax and SolidWorks are highly desirable.
APPLICATION: CV and a one-page cover letter describing training and research experience are required. CVs should include a detailed list of publications and the email addresses and phone numbers of at least 2 references.
