The Department of Asian History at Seoul National University, South Korea, invites applicants for a tenure track assistant professorship in the history of the Middle East since 1798. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the history of the modern Middle East and will have the opportunity to develop new courses of his/her own interests.

Ability to teach courses in earlier periods, such as the early caliphates and/or medieval Persia will be considered with extra preference. Advanced language skills in Arabic or Persian are required, as the successful candidate is supposed to train students to read original sources. He/she will be required to teach 9 hours a week in English.

The salary is approximately 50,000 U.S. dollars and may vary depending on previous career. PhD degree is required by the time of appointment.
