A Graduate Teaching Assistant (including PhD scholarship) opportunity at Anglia Ruskin University Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences: Peripheral refraction and myopia.
Myopia prevalence is increasing dramatically throughout the world. Peripheral refractive error has been shown to be linked to myopia development. The mechanism by which peripheral refraction leads to myopia development, however, still remains unclear. This project will endeavour to study peripheral vision in myopes and assess various mechanisms that could contribute to myopia development.
Excellent research underpins the teaching at our Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences. This commitment to research has been rewarded with an excellent performance in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). As part of our strategy to build on this strong research profile, we are offering an opportunity for a 3 year funded Graduate Teaching Assistantship, which includes a PhD studentship.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to gain a PhD in an area of considerable theoretical and clinical interest, and also to gain teaching experience to support an academic career.
The level of the award is £15,000 per year (partly funded by the Vision and Eye Research Unit and partly by the Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences) tuition fees are also included. The post involves teaching (up to 6 hours per week) and registration for a three year PhD studentship. Support and training for teaching will be supplied.
We are looking for applicants who are General Optical Council registered, with a good first degree in Optometry (at least 2:1), a willingness to teach undergraduates, and an interest in research. The ability to sign would be advantageous but not essential.
