1 PhD and 1 Post-doctoral position opening on: “Walking in Virtual
Environments with Haptic and Visual cues”

1 post-doc and 1 PhD position are available at the National Institute
of Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA) in Rennes,
France. The project is in the area of virtual reality (VR) and haptic
feedback (force/tactile feedback). It concerns the use of visual and
haptic feedback for the simulation of walking in virtual worlds. The
project is funded by the European Commission for 3 years. The aim is
to investigate how multisensory cues (visual and haptic) can
collaborate to improve the human walking in Virtual Environments.
There are different sub-projects on which the prospective post-doc
and PhD candidates may work on, according to their interests and
qualifications:

l Human perception of walking in virtual reality;

l Design of novel multisensory rendering (haptic rendering,
visual rendering, etc) for the simulation of ground properties;

l Design of novel interactive techniques for improved walking
in virtual worlds.

The candidates should have experience and motivation in either:
virtual reality, 3D user interface, haptic feedback, multi-sensory
studies, applied perception, experimental psychology, human factors,
or other relevant topics.

Postdoc and PhD positions are available : October 2008.

Location: BUNRAKU research team, INRIA, Rennes, France.
