Nanoparticle-mediated drug delivery
The CNS Inflammation Group in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton wishes to appoint a postdoctoral scientist to join a multi-disciplinary team working on the use of nanoparticles as drug delivery vehicles to the central nervous system. Your aspect of the project will focus on determining the release kinetics of compounds delivered using nanoparticles, by investigating the triggering of intracellular signalling cascades, in in-vitro model systems. A sound knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including western-blotting, ELISA and RT-PCR, together with immuno-histochemical expertise are needed.

The project will be undertaken in collaboration with the Institute of Immunology NUI Maynooth, and examines how chronic inflammation of the brain, as occurs with both common diseases and also with healthy ageing, affects biological timekeeping. Candidates are required to hold a first class or higher second class honours degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. neuroscience, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, psychology). Annual stipend will be paid at €16,000, with tuition fees at the EU level paid, and the start date will be October 2009.
